Plan Your Own Costume Party

As adults, sometimes we just want to have a night when we can feel like a kid again. Or maybe we want to spend some time in a fantasy world, where we can be someone else for just a few hours and enjoy an escape from our real world. If that is something that sounds good to you, then you may be interested in throwing a costume party for you and your friends. A costume party can allow people to show another side of their personality and lets them enjoy a time of make believe. Though it seems like a monumental undertaking, throwing a great costume party can be easy and stress free with just a few simple steps.

The Costumes: Make sure to plan your party with plenty of notice for you and your guests. An awesome costume will need shopping time and consideration, so you do not want anyone to feel rushed when they are picking out their personality for the night. When you send your invites, you may even want to direct guests to a few great online costume sites or local costume shops just to give them a starting point.

To Theme or Not to Theme: Take some time and decide if you want your party to be a fun theme or a wild mishmash of costumes and conversation. If you choose a theme, make sure to make your guests aware and then choose decorations, food items, and music that coincide with the style you chose. Or you may choose to have no theme at all, leaving guests totally free to pick their costumes, and making for an interesting night.

Food, Drinks, and Photos: A costume party means lots of fun and conversation, and less food and drinks. Keep the food items small and understated, making sure the things you serve are easy to carry around. This will make it easier for Cleopatra to strike up a conversation with Superman without worrying about a meal. Remember to take lots of pictures because every one will want to remember the night, and looking through the photos, identifying the face behind the mask can be like a fun game of memory later on. Or you may want to buy several disposable cameras and let guests pass them around throughout the evening for some interesting candids. Either way, you want to make sure you have plenty of mementos from the event.
